I may be biased, but I have the most handsome little boys I know. Recently we had photos taken at a local studio and they turned out wonderfully.
I have also decided to post some of my favorite current Owen-isms:
"yed" = red
"kuck"= truck
"wore"= water
"beebee"= baby
"HahHah"=Grandpa
"ay-yen"= alien
"Ham"= Sam
"byoo"= blue
"Melmo"= Elmo
"byoo Melmo"= Cookie Monster
"night-night"= night time, or sleeping depending on context
"Kerr"= car
"toot-toot"= train
"ain"= plane
"owwn"= brown, down or lay down depending on context
"yay-yet"= chocolate
"yag"= flag
"uh"= yes (I miss his previous words for yes: yisss, and yaw)
"hot ight"= the light is bright

Soccer game #3
Tonight was Owen's third soccer game. He is still a reluctant soccer player, but tonight he did kick the ball on the field during the game. He even ran on the field...sometimes. This is an improvement. That being said, there was a point during the game when half of his team exited the field to watch the skateboarders at the skate park next to the soccer field (it's on the other side of the wrought iron fence in the picture). It was entertaining to watch a mass exodus of neon orange jerseys run up to the fence and strain to get their little heads between the bars for a closer look!

Monday Play Day: 4/23/12 Copperton Park and GeoCaching
Today we set out to do some GeoCaching and play at Copperton Park. Owen really enjoyed playing on the big tires and climbing in the cement tunnel in the park. He also spent some time running around the tennis courts. If we can't get him to play soccer, maybe he might like tennis...?
We went GeoCaching in the Old Bingham Cemetery. It's an interesting place. We saw the final resting place of a police officer "killed in the line of duty" in November 1913. It may sound creepy to some, but I actually enjoy wandering around old cemeteries. They are full of history, literally. I think I take after Auntie Joan in this respect.
As we headed to the location of the geocache, I made a note of the many snake holes in the ground. I also decided to carry Owen the rest of the way to the cache, just in case one of the hole owners decided to venture out and attack as we tromped through the tumble weeds. Luckily all the living under ground dwellers didn't seem to be home. The thought did cross my mind of the lecture Zach would give me should I be bitten by a snake, and then I wondered how I would proceed should that happen. I was carrying Owen so I suspect he wouldn't be likely to be bit. Should I call 911? Should I attempt to walk back to the car and drive to the ED? Then, I decided to "hustle my bustle" and hopefully avoid the issue all together. We found an ammo can covered by large rocks. Inside we found some "memorial rocks" and some butterfly charms. We took one of the charms and signed the log. As I rushed hurriedly back to the car I thought that someone might be chuckling at the sight of a chubby mommy carrying a 3 year old and running for dear life back to the car...in a cemetery!
The next GeoCache was located in a park near my parents' West Jordan home. The cache contained a yellow "Army guy", a plasic bear and some caterpillar necklaces that were really cute. Owen took the bear. We left some cute animal buttons.
We had fun today. We'll have another (hopefully without the potential for snake bite) adventure next week!
A Perfect Sunday...
Yesterday, Owen went to ALL of Primary by himself. He cried of course, but the Primary Presidency told me they could manage him. I was anticipating one of them coming to snag Zach or myself to calm him down. I guess he isn't the first 3 year old who had to be wrangled into going to Sunbeams!
Before church we told Owen that we were going to go to visit Aunt Holly after church was over. On the way home from church as Zach was turning into our apartment complex Owen yells "NO!! HOLLY'S HOUSE!". We had to assure him we were simply going home to change out of our church clothes and then we were going over.
We had a great time yesterday visiting Aunt Holly, B, T, Mikkel, Heather and Kyle. Owen loves to go to Holly's house. I think he would live there if we would let him! He loves to jump on the trampoline and play with Mikkel and her dog Lily. We played badminton, had yummy food, and visited and visited. Brittany also treated us to an eyebrow waxing, even Zach had one! Jack was passed back and forth between family, He had a little cuddle nap with Heather and a little walk outside in Holly's arms. We are so grateful to be blessed with such a wonderful family and to have them so close!

Links in the post text SHOULD NOT be there!
I'm not sure what the links in my text are doing there. I have clicked on them and they go to some advertising sites, so don't click on them. I am trying to figure out how to remove them!

I'm trying to get my act back together and post regularly...
Here we are approximately 2 years after my last post. A quick update, I am now practicing as an FNP and have been doing so for almost 2 years. I work in a pain clinic and surprisingly (to myself mostly), I truly love it. I used to hate chronic pain patients. The last 2 years have opened my eyes to a misunderstood and often maligned place in the practice of medicine.
We also welcomed Jack Emmett Duckworth to our family earlier this year. My pregnancy with Jack was high risk and his delivery would have resulted in death for both of us had I not been in the hospital and had very quick thinking and moving care takers. As a result of that entire experience, I have a greater appreciation for family, God, and modern medicine.
I have started to do more research into my family history. I am falling in love with the stories of my ancestors. I am doing research into Zach's family as well.
Owen has started "playing" soccer this spring. He seems to enjoy running along the sidelines while his team plays the game. True to his Wheeler genes he is first in line for half-time and end-of-game treats. Poor Zach is beside himself when he watches the games as he is such a lover of soccer and Owen truly seems oblivious to what all the fuss is about. After all, he is only 3 years old. I suspect that he will soon be running after that ball, knocking down opponents (and possibly his own teammates) and making his daddy proud!

Tracy Aviary

Today, I had to go downtown and get fingerprinted @ DOPL (Dept. of Occupational and Professional Licensing) so I can get my FNP license. I had Owen in tow and we decided to go to the Aviary. I hadn't been since elementary school and Owen has never been (until today). The Aviary is bigger than I remember. We enjoyed seeing all the different birds, especially the Bald Eagle and the Flamingos. We had a great time!
